After years of demonstrated managerial experience in the Civil Engineering industry, skilled in Highways, Deep Foundations, Construction, Drainage and Sub-contracting; Joe Chambers felt the time was right to share his professionalism with potential clients and put into practice his immeasurable hands on experience, now creating job opportunities and economic development by founding JC Groundworks & Civils Ltd.


Being asked his best professional attribute, Joe responds, “my conscientious can-do attitude where failure is not an option; this has been a core belief of mine since starting my career in the industry as a school leaver working on the roads, installing cable and ducting for cable TV and telecoms”.


Initially applying his integrity as an apprentice Joiner then moving over into the Civil Engineering sector as a form worker, gradually progressing up the professional ladder to Charge-hand, Foreman, General Foreman, Works Manager, Site Manager, Project Manager to Construction Manager before creating the beloved JC Groundworks & Civils Ltd family business, Joe remains humble in his success.


Joe's values have not changed and he states, "It’s essential to remain grounded for the benefit of the JCGC  Ltd Team, Clients and Suppliers to demonstrate our company's vision; I am a firm believer in treating people as I want to be treated, bringing that mentality to my own business. Everyone has their part to play and will be integral to the success of my business especially since we have created a network of current and potential clients who are increasingly coming to trust in JCGC Ltd when delivering our promises of quality, competitive works”.

As well as helping to run JCGC Ltd, Aaron Chambers is currently focusing on further training and education to enhance our Finance Departments processes.


We are a humble organisation and will always promote that all Team Members, no matter what level of experience they hold, continue to train, learn & develop continuously.


This current commitment that our Director demonstrates shows great leadership and that progression is never to be underestimated. With over 17 years experience in Civil Engineering and drainage, Dean Kilpatrick first started on the ground as a Labourer with his father. With his skills and commitment not going unnoticed by major Clients, Dean was soon gaining further experience on prestigious projects such as Major Airfields renewals including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey and; Highways projects including M8/A8


​Progressing throughout the years from Ground-worker to Ganger, Ground Foreman to Section Foreman, Site Manager to  Senior Site Manager, Works Manager to Senior Works Manager, Construction Manager to now Operations Manager, Dean has been able to achieve this with the knowledge gained but also his strong work ethic. His natural ability to drive the teams forward in delivering quality works efficiently for JCGC Ltd's clients is what makes him a key member of our Team.


Structure is paramount and it is something our Operations Manager evokes, instils and abides by to certify our clients receive the best service and that our workforce are protected. Following processes and procedures has saw Dean deliver projects from planning stage - completion of works and these projects are just some of his key highlights with JC Groundworks & Civils Ltd.

With over 10 years’ experience of civil engineering in the construction and railway sector, our high performing Business Development Manager Mandy McDonald brings a wealth of industry knowledge which supports our business operations day to day, enabling JCGC Ltd to manage our successful growth at present whilst also establishing future prospects and success.


Previously working on the ground as a Safe System of Work Planner, Engineering Supervisor and Controller of Site Safety all over Scotland on major projects with Carillion & BAM Nuttall, it was time to hang up the hard hat and safety boots, now applying knowledge and experience to JCGC Ltd's processes in order to ensure that, not only our valued clients receive our best delivery, but that our employees are looked after - recognising happy employees work hard to provide a great service to clients. 


Being asked the highlight of her career until now, Mandy remembers and reflects, “Not sure it was a highlight but certainly a learning curve. Re-locating to the North of Scotland and working at Corrour railway station, the team was obstructed on the red dust single track road by a heard of Highland Cows. Going out the van to, ‘meet the locals’, the entire paperwork was blown away with a strong gust of wind in such a remote, isolated area; there was no back-up plan in place. It was then I recognised the change in industry required for situations like this to minimise wasted time and, I’m happy to say that JCGC Ltd are accepting of the modern improvements and investments required in the industry to ensure that there are contingency arrangements so that our works can always proceed where safely possible. It’s that kind of support and investment in development from your employers that you need, it is key”

Brian McCoo, our internal Health & Safety Manager has over 33 years’ experience within the Civil Engineering, Construction and the Oil & Gas sector; major projects in marine construction & piling plus the M74 Completion Project - these are some notable works he has been a successful contributor in.


Currently a facilitator of Behavioural Safety Initiatives/programmes in possession of NEBOSH and qualified CPCS Tester, there was no doubt Brian had to join the JCGC Ltd Team.

Shaun McMenamin is a Construction time-served Joiner to initial trade, with a successful career at Glasgow City Council. He brings with him years of experience in concrete works and shuttering too when his skills and knowledge were later essential in major civil engineering projects such as Braehead Shopping Centre, the Scottish Parliament, the Forth Road Bride, maintaining the water towers and the new General Hospital.


Throughout this vast experience and with the multiple Certifications he holds, Shaun has progressed from charge-hand to Foreman and is now JCGC Ltd’s dedicated Site Manager; he brings with him his wealth of knowledge to our company whilst applying this to our processes and procedures.


Now controlling some of our Major Projects, Shaun is efficient in communication between our Clients, our workforce, our procurement team and management associates to ensure works are carried out as per schedule and with certifiable quality.


Asking Shaun what he enjoys most about the industry he replies, “recently in my progressive role, I’ve enjoyed the challenge of meeting targets more managerial targets for project related matters. It’s good to have professional and manageable pressure in the workplace because it makes you challenge yourself so that our teams don’t become complacent, meaning we will always deliver our works with precision and to the clients' satisfaction as they have come to expect.

Admin Assistants

Cliodhna and Eva Chambers are our two admin assistants in training. Whilst learning as they work, they are both gaining invaluable experience and knowledge on the ins and outs of running a business. Their current roles include basic admin duties such as spreadsheets, website design and social media upkeep as well as building confidence in speaking with clients and suppliers as part of their development.


Aside from this job, Cliodhna is a design student and so, it is helpful to have this knowledge on the team for marketing purposes. When asked what her favourite part of the job is her response was “ I enjoy the creative side of the job. Whether that is drafting the website layout, writing blog posts or creating visuals for the company; these creative tasks allow me to put my skills into use. Having said that, I am also grateful to learn the admin side of the job as it will give me good experience for the future.”


Eva is also moving into further education for business, so this is a great opportunity for her to gain some experience in the industry. With her current basic business knowledge, this job allows Eva to apply her admin and organisational skills whilst continuously expanding on them. JCGC Ltd feel Eva's strongest skill-set is organisation and working with Microsoft Packages which assist massively in day-day record keeping and data monitoring.
